Im trying to install sp2 on a computer that had a prerelease version of
sp2 on it. The currently release version will not install overtop of the
one currently on the machine, and telles the to uninstall the prior, but
I cannot remove the one that is on the machine currently it was setup
with a test cd that had the sp2 prerelease integreated to the setup for
settinup unattended installs.

Hi,

Yep, that was one of the warnings in testing the integrated version, and
this was made very clear during the beta. As they were only available to the
beta testers, whomever installed that should have known that. A clean
installation is the only possible solution. The publicly available RC's were
the SP2 only, no integrated versions were made available to the general
public.

I made my own integrated version. (Integrated it in to the cd my self)
From a beta version that was up on www.microsoft.com/technet months
before the final release of sp2. Is there any way I can fix it so that I
can install the new sp2. Maybe change the version of the os in the
registry to sp1? What all does the instaltion check to figure out what
version your os is and what what service packs you have installed.

Hi Josh,

Sorry, there is nothing you can do to alter what is. Integrated versions
cannot be upgraded to the final product. It matters not that you made your
own from the technet release. Backup whatever you want to keep, or use the
FASTWIZ to save the system settings, then bite the bullet and do what needs
to be done.
