I have tried three different times to install SP2. The installation window
appears, I receive the Initializing... message and the progress bar but
NOTHING happens, for hours. When I check the task manager it says it is
running but nothing happens, nothing.

You also want to re-check your "Installed programs" list in
your Control panel "Add/Remove" applet.

Windows software updates typically install invisibly -- that
is-- you are not aware that they are downloading until you
are told to reboot.

If you just so happen to reboot about the same time you
would have been notified to reboot, it is possible that you
didn't see the reboot note.

If you look in the "Installed Programs" list, it will tell
you if you have downloaded SP 2 without being aware of it.

I had the same issue you are expressing until it occurred to
me to check my installed programs list.

The upgrades were there.

Good luck!
