Hello, I was running Windows XP Professional with SP2 when a problem
came up with my computer where it wouldn't shutdown, it would just
stay on the blue screen that says "Windows is shutting down". Anyway
so I did a windows repair from my windows disk, the only problem is
that the windows disk was with SP1. so i repaired windows, it logging
in and i ran microsoft update. it installs all the updates fine until
it gets to the point where it i have rebooted and I go back to the
site and run MS update and it DLs SP2. its starts to install SP2 but
as the installer is running. it gets stuck at this part the of the
installation. the top line above the progress bar is "Creating
cabinets" the area below the progress bar says "Running processes
before install". i have tried to run it three times and it gets stuck
at that same spot i have left it for over an hour. I even tried to
install SP2 manually using the one you DL off of MS's site. It gets
stuck in the same place as the MS Update one. How am I to update my
system back to SP2? should i just backup my files and do a clean
install? Thanks for any help!

Hi ,

Simple: Uninstall any and all Spyware programs, as well as uninstalling
any Anti-virus programs as well as Software Firewalls.

Reinstall these, after the updating finishes.

Did you run Chkdsk or Windows System Restore, before doing the repair?
