XP SP2

Hi everyone.
It has become necessary to reinstall/repair XP from its original
manufacturers rescue disk on my PC but as it is a few years old the original
disk will obviously not have any updates on it. I have searched everywhere
for all the updates from XP SP1 and XP SP2 but cannot find any even on the
MS website. It only offers XP SP3 and says this cannot be used if SP2 is
not already there on my PC. Similarly I have found an SP2 update from MS
but only for multiple networked PC's. It specifically says the update should
not be used for a single PC. I do not like Windows 7/Vista so how can I
update my system back to XP SP2 before MS no longer provides support for
SP2.

Thanks in advance for any help offered. Best regards.

As has been discussed over and over in the MS newsgroups, yes, use that one.

Thanks Bruce for your very informative and helpful response. Its unfortunate
the earlier reply from another person called Willet was not as helpful. My
question may have been referred to on this site before but I spent a lot of
money on phone calls and a fee for speaking to a Microsoft employee who
specifically said that the item I mentioned must NOT be used for an update.
I did this before coming to this site for further help when all else failed.

Once again Bruce many thanks for treating my request for help with the
respect you did.

Kind regards

You're welcome. The update you mentioned for Networks can indeed be used.
It was a case of poor wording in the update instructions. It was made so
it would work for networks, but works on a single PC as well.
