SP2 installation.. how to tell if it actuall occured?

We have just reinstalled XP Pro on a laptop, then wanted to install SP2. We
went to the MS site, clicked to download SP2. It downloaded the installer.
But it never gave us the SP2 wizard screen. When we check to see the system
info on the Laptop, it doesn't show that it has the SP2 version. We used the
installer to "show latest updates", which takes us back to the MS website..
and it shows a list of updates available.. but none are named SP2.

Is there something special you are supposed to do after you have clicked on
the download link for SP2 (and it downloads and installs the installer)? It
never seems to do anything else.

Thanks for any help.

Something went wrong somewhere and it seems SP-2 is not installed.
Download the Network Installation and install SP-2.
Or order SP-2 on CD.
Both options are in Step 1 on this page:

If you still have problems, follow the Service Pack Installation
Checklist.

You have, of course, clicked on, and used, the installer, right? THAT is
what actually downloads SP2. OR, you can go to the Categories and download
SP2 as a file, burn it to a CD, and use that to install. OR, I think there
are still places you can buy a CD of SP2 for a modest price.
With the installer, all it does is install it; you won't have a copy of
it for the next time you do that build.
