sp2 installation hangs at Checking Product Key

hi, I'm desperate

I clean formatted my laptop with a validated retail XP Sp1 version but I
cant install SP2 whatever I do. I tried three times, dowloaded all the
updates b4 installing sp2 but it keeps hanging at 'checking product key'

any ideas? I did it before one year ago, why doesnt it work today?

How are you trying to install SP2 - from Windows Update? If so one option
is to download the stand alone version and install it. You can get it from
here:

Another option is to slipstream SP2 into the XP installation CD to create a
new installation CD with SP2 integrated. Then do a clean install. Here are
some links for how to do this. Autostreamer makes it easy.

Dear Rock,

thnx a lot. In the end it worked with autostreamer. I burnt the ISO with a
freeware prog called CDBurner XP Pro because Nero wouldnt recognise my
Packard Bell QSI SDW-082S CD ROM?!
