I'm doing a clean re-install XPpro SP2 but set-up says my prod key is
invalid. I have the cd and prod key sticker but no luck. Obviously XP was
valid just a couple of days ago. HP workstation xw8000

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5," or
a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense to
leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation. Also, be
sure that your <CapsLock> is _off_ while entering the Product Key --
this isn't supposed to make a difference, but I've seen it do so, on
rare occasions.

How is that going to help, when the OP can't even install the OS
because of an "invalid product key?"

Ok Bruce, I'm obviously doing a bad job on installing this time around. I did
get XP installed but lost a harddrive along the way. Had 2, now 1. Is this a
driver installation issue or is that harddrive gone forever?

Depends on what type of device it is, if SATA you needed to press F6 during
the initial install of windows to let the system know you have extra drivers
you need to install using the floppy, Please keep in mind in order to give
good advice, it's necessary for the poster to give sufficent details, ie what
kind of drive it is, what exactly happened to make you believe the drive is
bad, any error messages, steps you took to cause this to happen etc.

You're right. SCSI drivers and I'm using the same driver floppy that I used
before but during set-up I DID get an error message stating the LSI adapter
hadn't passed windows logo testing, would I still like to continue? I chose
yes because at that point of the set-up there was no way of closing out short
of pulling the plug. BTW device manager confirms there are 2 hd's. Given that
I did this once before it's getting frustrating and embarrassing.

As anside, if during the install windows wont see your keystrokes when
its time to enter in the key than use a different keyboard.
