Sp2 Installation cancels Networking - Help

Have installed Sp2 on my Toshiba Satellite notebook running WinXp-Home.
After couple restarts while moving from office to home and back again the
address changes from 192..... to 169... . Am unable to get back the
networking address unless I restore my registry back to prior Sp2
installation. Anyone have thoughts on how to get Sp2 from ruining my
networking ability?

Un-install and re-install the network adapter.

It is a notebook so I have Local Area Connection (Realtek), 1394 Connection
2, and Network Bridge (MAC). Which/where do I start and how far do I go
(uninstall all three?)?

Open the Network Connections folder. If there's a Network Bridge,
right-click and delete it. Then, go to Device Manager and un-install
the Realtek, which is the adapter that connects to the local area
network.

It works, almost. Notebook gets the internet now and can see wife's desktop
which also sees the notebook. However my desktop can not see the notebook
but can see wife's desktop. Everything worked once but after taking notebook
home to hook up and come back to where it is partially working. Everything
worked fine before I upgraded to SP2. What gives?

Incidentally I am using NetBEUI protocol for computers to see each other.
Doing this because I heard it is more secure than having TCP/IP available
for seeing computers while also using for internet communication.

Oops, found the problem where I had the wrong mapping name on desktop
computer. Thank you very much for our help.
