SP2 Install -- Receiving Access is Denied problem

I am trying to install SP2 and the install stops with an Access is Denied
error - I have tried 5 times with same error -- I had Dell trying to help me
and we tried to fix registry per MS report and tat did not work.

Can anyone please help me and give me some direction ?

Registry Fix ? - You might try to boot to Safe Mode and run the
SP2 installer from that boot mode. When you say install stops- at
what point does that occur ? ( Unpacking, Backing up or install
phase ).
Access Denied could either be a inability to modify Registry keys
and values or a system folder that must have components replaced.

When you install Windows XP SP1, SP2, or greater, you receive:
Access Denied

This problem will occur of the user does NOT have Full Control permission on
the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
Update

To resolve this error:
1. Log on with an account that has administrative credentials.
2. Start / Run / Regedit / OK.
3. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
Update
4. Right-click the Auto Update sub-key and press Permissions.
5. Grant the Administrators local group Full Control permissions.
