SP2 install freezes PC

Hi,

I've tried twice now to install SP2 without much luck. Well, the actual
install seems to go smoothly enough, but once installed, windows XP freezes
immediately. I know it had something to do the right click menu, since
every time I tried to right click anything the system would freeze. I
"might" get the main drop down menu, but no sub menus. At any rate, I
uninstalled SP2 and everything worked fine. So at that point, I uninstalled
DivX software, and used a program (can't remember the name off hand) to
disable all the right click extensions. Installed SP2 again, and the
problem came back.

I checked and rechecked for a possible virus, malware, or spyware. Nothing
found. I suspect there is some program on this computer that is causing
this, but what it is I do no know. I really hate to uninstall every program
one by one just to test this. Other than that, does anyone have any
suggestions?

I have a Dell Dimension 8200, 2.4G P4, Windows XP SP1, 768 MB Rambus RAM.
Thanks!

~ Doug

PS. Up until SP2 I have installed every update without a hitch. Windows
Update has always worked flawlessly. I don't really need the SP2 update
right now I suppose, since I don't have any problems with spyware, spam,
malware, etc. At least not that I know of. That being said, I suspect I
will need SP2 in the future if/when Windows Update requires that SP2 is
installed before installing any further updates:-(
