SP2 havoc! X(

1st I got:

http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&[email protected]

then next day, I got networking problem "Acquiring network address".
My notebook used to worked prior-SP2, with all auto lookup (DHCP)
1st day installed okay, rebooted too. Next day, short-liao.
tried boot-with-networking, no use.
tried others (3) ports, no use.

ipconfig show 0.0.0.0, release or renew either give "RPC" error or
something permission else.

Finally resolve to use static assignment, no DHCP. then only it work.

Symptom:
after login, shown a blank desktop, only cursor there. The "normal"
desktop only show up about few minutes later, with the "Acquiring
network address" in networking icon (taskbar), no LAN access.

During troubleshooting, disable it, then reboot and relogin, else you
gonna sit there to stare at the blank desktop for your own amusement.

Hi

If you've got no DHCP assignment - reboot your modem (Broadband ??) or
contact your ISP.

Its office LAN.

So, XP SP2 need "external" network device to be reboot for effectiveness?

:-?

My Admin here also no idea on this.

The static IP assignment workaround is from him.

Well, as long as I can get my workstation run ok, I can wait for the
next sp/hotfix rollout.
