SP2 freezes up on install everytime

My problem is that I am trying to upgrade to SP2 and my computer just freezes
up at an early stage of the install. I tryed to Ctrl + Alt + Delete to end
the task and had no response from keyboard and the mouse did not seem to
respond either, so I had use the power button to shut down my computer and
restart. I tried the install about 4 times each time with the same outcome.
I would freeze at random places throughout the install but early enough so
that SP2 could not get through to start installing its components. On my
second try, I did a virus scan, turned off my virus and firewall software,
installed and ran adaware and spybot and tried again but it would still
freeze up. I did notice that whenever I disconnect the ethernet cable from
the computer it functions normally but, as soon as I plug it in after about
two minutes it freezes up again. It did not behave this way before I tried
the SP2 install. Can someone out there please help?

I am still having problems with this install...<sigh> I even tried to use a
Windows SP2 installation CD, thinking that my download may have been corrupt
and it still froze up early on the install. Each time has been diffrent but
the installation never goes much further than performing an inventory. Then
I have to shut it down and restart using the power button. The weird thing
is that the internet freezes up too... My PC never did this prior to the
inital time that I tried to install SP2. Another note...I cannot use the
serial keyboard port on my computer (it's broken) so I have a wireless USB
mouse and keyboard set...Could this have something to do with the lockups?
PLEASE HELP.
