SP2 for WinXP Pro and windowsupdate version 5

ak

I have downloaded the windows update version 5 and when I
try to get the updates, it says cannot validate product key.

So, I downloaded the SP2 separate and it works fine,
however, when I try to get future updates, it still gives
me the same message!

I went through the steps to correct the problem and still
no success.

I have a volume license agreement with Microsoft for this
product and it says it is already activated. What would be
the problem? Is it a problem Microsoft doesn't know they
have? Or is there something wrong with all of my machines!?
Or what? Any info or help would be very useful. Thanks

If you are getting the following error message when attempting to update:

Error Message: The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326904&Product=winxp

You'll have to purchase a new "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and perform a "Repair Install" using the new Windows XP Pro CD and Product Key
that comes with it. (You cannot simply change the Product Key)

I have the same problem, everything thing work great
uptill 2 days ago. I have had sp2 installed for a few
weeks now. I went to the update site and it updated sp2
to rc2 I believe, and now I get "Invalid Product KEy". I
don't understand why we\I should purchase another copy
when we\I have already done this. Please Explain. Thanks

LOL! How quick we are to ASSume! Has it ever occured to that feeble
brain of yours, that the problem is on MS's end, not because this guy is
using pirated software?

It's not like nobody has never gotten erroneous error messages from MS's
code before.

That's what happens with copy-protection. Eventually it will protect itself
from YOU, the paying customer. MS would rather protect their flawed
software, than protect its' paying customers from its flawed software.
