SP2 for what OS?

I obtained first CD with SP1 and it was good for other OS
besides XP like Windows 98. Now I obtained CD for SP2 but
it looks specific for XP.

I guess that I can only use the SP2 for XP then? I was
hoping that it would apply to my Windows ME and the place
where I volunteer that has Windows 98 SE. Do I need
different things for each? Dial-up downloads take hours.

No - you obtained a Windows security update CD before that had patches
and SPs applicable to various windows versions but the Windows XP SP2 is
only for Windows XP.

SP2 is good for one thing only, and that is to (hopefully)
fix some of the problems in XP.

On that particular SECURITY cd, SP1 was for XP as were some of the others,
and it included critical updates for former OSes.. this time, the cd is
specifically for XP, so only includes SP2..

SP2 is a service pack for the Windows XP operating system, and nothing
else. So was Windows XP SP1. I think you are confusing with the SP1
for Internet Explorer - which came in versions for other Windows as
well.

Or more likely, Susan was talking about the Windows Security
Update CD that was designed for all versions of Windows
desktops since W98.
