SP2: explorer.exe tries to contact ctrl.verisign.com on bootup

Hi, all,

After installing SP2, explorer.exe tries to contact ctrl.verisign.com on
after boot-up every time. My firewall (sygate) notifies me of it. I haven't
allowed the contact because I have no clue as to why it's doing it.

Can anyone explain this behavior?

You are set to 'check certificates'
In Network Connections folder, click the dial-up, VPN, or incoming
connection on which you want to use smart card or other certificate
authentication, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this
connection.
