Strange Explorer.exe, IExplore.exe and related Errors

Recently, after a small fight with some viruses my computer started to act
strangly, as Explorer.exe would shutdown and try to send an error report
after 7 seconds f being active, and would reboot, it does not do this in safe
mode however (in fact none of this happens in safe mode) putting the error
report aside I can control the desktop normally, however trying to access "My
Documents" shuts down explorer.exe without fail. the error code generated
says its a 0Xc0000005 error. The same happens with IExplore and any version
of Messenger, and the same error code is generated. I've tried to devirus my
system multiple times with many programs, and I've tried shutting off all
optional EXE's in taskmanager, and am at my wits end after 3 days. If anyone
has ANY Idea I would appreciate it greatly

Running XP Pro, SP1 (For some unknown reason my computer will not allow SP2
to be installed, It keeps telling me I'm not running a microsoft operating
system. Any ideas on that would be appreciated but I've been getting by
without it. Yes, This is a legitimate copy)

One of the things that makes removing a virus difficult is System
Restore. The virus can be (and often is) installed in the System Restore
files, so that it comes back as soon as you reboot your computer. The
best practice is to turn off System Restore on all drives, then reboot
into Safe mode, and run your antivirus software from there. That should
result in a truly clean machine. While you are at it, you should scan
for and remove all Adware. For this, I use Lavasoft AdAware. Some people
prefer Spybot Search & Destroy, from www.safer-networking.org.

Thanks for the help, It made my computer less sloggy, a little easier to work
around with, however I found the problem, and I'll post it here in case other
users discover the same error.

Two specific files were missing/incorrect in my Windows/System folder.
WinInet was missing, and a new file msvcrl.dll was causing all sorts of
trouble. deleting the one and downloading and reinstalling the other fixed my
computer almost completely.
