SP2 doesn't like ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB

Greetings

Updated five pcs to SP2, they don't let me see the monitor, it freezes as
soon as the windows logo appears..the same happened since the first
installation so that I was wondering why I wasn't able to complete
installation of the OS... while It simply freezed, in fact booting in VGA
mode the OS was correctly installed..
No doubts it depends on the ATI Radeon 9200:
1) in VGA mode everything works fine
2) it's the only component common to all pcs

Downloaded latest catalyst drivers (4.10) and attempted several times,
obatained no results.
Did anyone experienced the same?
Found any solution?

P.S.
Sorry for my English..it's not my mothertongue

maybe you have to uninstall the videocard first before installing SP2
I have had 2 computers upgraded to SP2 with the same video chipset
without any problems

try to install the video card from a source on disk,
extract the latest or second latest drivers and update the driver
pointing to the extracted files

Your English is fine.

If you have determined the problem is with the ATI card and drivers I would
ask them for help.

A machine doesnt use those drivers you downloaded till xp desktop is opened,
if youre computer board has video (on board) then thiers always a conflict
till
you uninstall on-board video.Youre best bet is to uninstall, shutdown
computer.
Install ATI card,on desktop,uninstall on-board,then before a reboot,install
ATI
software/drivers.Thiers now 2 versions of ATI,the catalyst,and the
control-panel,
the catalyst doesnt run well in xp with SP2,the control-panel version runs
fine.
Thier most stable,is 09/03 then update as needed.

no, it actually loads drivers well before the welcome screen

to the OP:
press F8 and choose a logged boot sequence

ntdetect loads the hardware part of the registry
so, look for VGA device errors in that region

Yeah!! I finally succeeded!!!If you have VIA chipset maybe the problem
depends on the AGP VIAdrivers, and VIA too recomends to use Windows AGP
drivers.Anyway that is how I've done.1- Installed WinXP SP2 (not updated)2-
At last automatic reboot I got black screen: that's ok, I espectedthat3-
Rebooted in safe mode: installed VIA chipest drivers, EXCLUDING AGPdrivers;
reboot in safe mode4- Installed audio drivers (most important!!!) and
rebooted in safemode5- Installed all other devices lacking proper drivers,
rebooted in VGAmode6- Finally, installed ATI's catalyst 4.10 and rebooted
normally7- Finish. At this point I experienced on two pcs out of five
blankscreen again, but it depends on drivers testing the environment:
sodon't worry leave it doing its work and force reboot with reset
someminutes later.NOTEI had attempted uninstalling VIA AGP drivers, catalyst
etc etc... NO,doesn't work... only this clean and tidy installation achieves
its aimThx you allyanez
