sp2 crashes pc

Ihave an amd 64bit system i can install xp pro and sp1 no
problem it works fine but then when i try to install sp2
it goes to the blue screen saying unmountable boot volume
every time and restarts over and over again it will not
boot, i have used 6 sp2 disks and 2 downloads off m/soft
and still no pc, i can use system restore to go back pre
sp2 and it will run ok but i want it up to date any
ideas im gettin pissed off now 2 weeks on . many thanks


system spec

amd64 bit 3200+ 700 series chip
asus k8s-mx board
1gb branded memory have changed 3 times to see if mem prob
160gb maxtor hd
nvidia mx4000 128mb graphics card have tried on board as
well still same crash

Been there, done that. I solved mine when I realised that the driver for my
optical mouse was preventing SP2 completing the install.

I got around it by reformatting the HD and installing XP and the service
packs before any other software including the MB drivers.

Been there, done that.still unmountable boot volume after
all that ? any one other ideas will be appreciated
