SP2 - CPU at 100%

Hi

I'm using WinXPsp2.

Randomly, a couple three times a day, a progran will race up to 100%. If
suspended, the issue will not escalate. If the program is killed, another
program will race up to 100%.

I tested for Viri and malware.

MS has a hot fix for this issue that was intrduced in SP2, does anyone know
where I can get that hot-fix?

am confused, you say you have SP2 but then ask for a fix that was included in SP2.
use Task Manager to see what is chewing up the cpu.

Hi Mike

There is a Microsoft article that says that this is a known problem, and it
was introduced by WinXP SP2, I just do not know where and how to get the
hot-fix.

I'm using a process monitor to track CPU usage.

Hi Gordon

that's the articel that I read, and started me on the search for the
hot-fix.

http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support is a general
switchboards
for support options.

I have no idea after reading the articel as to how to get the download.

can you giove me a hint?

Call Microsoft Professional Customer Service @ 1-800-936-5700(4900) (this
line is 24/7), there is an option for hotfix. A rep will email you a link to
the fix.

Bob: have you ever followed the link you sent? It links to about 25
different options, not all of which are the most obvious things, and the
ones that are obvious actually lead you on a merry path. Last time I tried
to get a hotfix, I remember going in many many circles around their site
before finally getting somewhere. They can't, of course, give you a link
directly from the page that mentions the hotfix...no, that would be too
easy. (And it's not like they need to worry about localizing the link all
that much...presumably if you clicked on the link, then you can read the
language of the page, and the link can point to a support area where they
speak that language.)

I don't remember it being that convoluted. But then I haven't called MS
tech support in quite a few years.
