sp2 control panel problems

after sp2 was installed, went to control panel and when the cursor is moved
to a selection, that selection is underlined. when that selection is clicked
its window opens. when the cursor is moved to a selection IT IS NOIT
UNDERLINED. when that icon is clicked a not responding appears in the task
bar. nothing happens. when theclose red x is clicked a message is displayed "
program not responding"
this problem is with all the pc's i upgraded with sp2.

This sounds multi-issue related. For starters, try this combo:

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and HijackThis:

Check your settings under Tools/Folder Options/General - Click items as
follows and run line 157:
