SP2 causes computer to restart without end

I have a computer that hasn't been online for a while and it had the original
xp. I downloaded Windows Update, and after about 15 of them, finally SP2 came
up for updating. It went fine and asked for a restart. I did it, and I see
the XP starting graphic with the blue bar moving from left to right. Then
just as it would normally go to the desktop, the computer shuts down and
restarts again. This has happened repeatedly. Solutions?

1. Reboot into Safe Mode.

2. Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Advanced (tab) | Startup and
Recovery | Settings (button) | System Failure | Automatically restart
<=uncheck | OK your way out & reboot into normal (Windows) mode.

3. Now see...

Error message after you upgrade a computer that uses a processor other than
an Intel processor to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or to Windows XP Service
Pack 3: "STOP: 0x0000007E":
