I'm testing SP2, and I've tried slipstreaming it into an installation CD-ROM
of Windows XP Professional; when done, it creates a "cmpnents" folder on the
CD root, containing two other folders, one of which, named "netfx", seems to
contain the whole netfx.cab for .NET Framework 1.1.
But, when installing from this CD-ROM, the .NET framework is definitely
*not* getting installed, nor does it appear as an additional installable
component in the Windows components list; also, when running Windows Update,
it suggests to download and install the framework, like it wasn't actually
there.
Two questions, then: what is the netfx.cab doing there, if it's not used?
And: why is this service pack updating *everything* in the system, including
DirectX and Windows Media Player (at last!), but not installing the
framework, which I definitely think should be shipped with the OS, if
Microsoft ever plans for anyone to use it?
Thanks
