Are the Net framework 1.1 install files stuffed or something

P

Paul

I managed to slipstream Net framework 1.1 and 2 (with updates).

Only thing is, in add/remove programs it said 1.1 maybe corrupt.

I thought installing Net framework 2 corrupted the 1.1
install. So, to test this, I removed the NF 2 files, and installed the 1.1
files. Same thing happened.

Is there a trick to installing Net framework 1.1 or something?? Since it
doesnt matter if I install it by itself or slipstream it with Net framework
2, or install it after I install XP (not slipstreamed) the install is still
corrupt

Or is it one of the 1.1 updates that screw the NF 1.1 install up??

Paul,

What security software [antivirus, security suite, etc.] is installed ?
Which software installed requires .NET Framework 1.1 ?

When you say " in add/remove programs it said 1.1 maybe corrupt ", are
you referring to clicking on Change and attempting to Repair .NET 1.1 ?

You can run this tool to verify the state of installed .NET Frameworks:
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2008/03/03/8015158.aspx

That tool is more reliable than the info reported by the Change/Repair
option in ARP.
Suggest you contact Aaron if .NET 1.1 can not install without becoming
corrupted: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/contact.aspx

No firewall besides XP's. Avast is installed

BUT I usually install Avast AFTER XP has has been
installed

The only thing that I'm running (well that needs Net Framework 2 are the ATI
drivers)

Do these drivers need 1.1 to be installed??

Before the ATI drivers will work??

Correct in add/remove programs (under 1.1), it points
toC:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\1033\repairresdist.htm

And says to type

n:\<installaton source>\dotnetfx.exe /t:%temp% /c:"msiexec.exe /fvecms
%temp% \netfx.msi"

I'm going to try and see if its one of the patches that are stuffing it up
(I'll just install the 1.1 install file and nothing else.

Hm I wonder if this entry for 1.1 in add/remove programs is misleading.

Because, I used that verifier tool to check 1.1 and 2, and both succeeded?
On the computer I'm on now.

Which has the same entry (under NF 1.1 in add/remove programs), which I
posted previously

Got it fixed.

Managed to find an addon for Nlite on the mfsn.org
site

Which inc 1.1/20/3 SP1 and 3.5. Extracted the file added it to the SVCPACK
folder and to svcpack.in_ and the reg fix. And she's all go!

Tested the installed versions with that tool.

All 4 succeeded !

Nice work here, Paul. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but it's the
July 4th weekend and all that.
After reviewing your previous posts ... the ATI Catalyst Control Center
*may* be the cause of the corruption of .NET 1.1. What happens is that
once it's installed and then tries to update with SP1 [ or any other
update for it ], the Catalyst Control Center holds files in use that
need to be updated/replaced. Since the Control Center fires up first on
a reboot, the files are never updated/replaced.
Some folks have posted that stopping the Control Center from loading on
startup allows the .NET 1.1 files to be updated/replaced correctly.
If there are no features that you need/want from the Control Center then
suggest you just install the required drivers. They are available on the
ATI [AMD] web site as a separate download.

Umm it was corrupted way before I installed the ATI
drivers.

I tested this, by just slipstreaming 1.1 and its updates. Add/remove
programs for 1.1 still said the install maybe corrupt.

If I slipstreamed Net framework 2, (and its updates) it was fine. The ATI CC
drivers werent slipstreamed

(I'm using the ASUS ATI drivers, since these are ASUS cards (And the ATI
drivers seem to be fine on this pc,but crash on the other PC. Why I dont
know.

It still says it maybe corrupt now (for 1.1), but that verifier tool, said
it was fine (it succeeded).

Along with the other versions of Net framework, I slipstreamed (all
succeded).
