SP2: a couple exe's do nothing...

Kristi

Successfully installed SP2 over SP1.999

Then I slipstreamed my XP CD with SP2 and burnt that "iso" to a new CD.

Did install with the new CD.

Practally everything has gone very well.

So far, 2 install type exe's do nothing - just sit there:
1. "tray CPU" (a little util that shows CPU % in the tray)
2. Canon "Scangear toolbox" for my Canon scanner.

How can I tell what they are hung up on?
tia!!!

Liking SP2!

I had this happen to about 5 installs on the "slipstreamed XPSP2 gen" on
stuff that was already installed and running on the "SP1 to SP2 gen" I
have, so I had to go back to the "SP1 to SP2 gen" till I get an idea as to
how I find out what they're stoppiong on (no messages, nothing in events,
nothing in any log files I could find).

Thoughts, please?
tia!!!

(note, these installs work fine on the "SP1 upgraded to SP2" system)

Go to the third-party software mftrs.' websites and look under tech
support for patches. Some programs may be incompatible with SP2 and it
will be up to the software mftr. to fix this.

Does SP2 not give any indication or message of this?

No. There is no variant of the Windows Update Advisor included in a
Service Pack (any Service Pack). Before any type of major change, a
user should always check on third-party software mftrs.' websites to
make sure there will be no issues with their applications installed on
the machine. It is not Microsoft's responsibility to contact every
software company to warn them to check their code. There has been
plenty of information on MSDN and TechNet for a long time for people
who write Windows software to see what the changes would be in order to
determine if they would need to change their code.

Thanks for your time in replying - I started over and regenned XP with the
same slipstreamed CD and all worked fine. Don't know why it went bad
before. Maybe the prob it had with my USR dialup modem, maybe cause I
installed intellipoint4 instead of 5. Something! But all is well now!!!
