SP1 restore delete

When installing SP1 (running XP Pro) I chose the option
that allowed me to restore my system to its pre-SP1
status, but I'm fine with SP1 now and I'm left with a lot
of hard drive hogging files and folders in c:\windows
such as $NtUninstallKB822603$ which I'd now like to get
rid of. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hi,

You can simply delete the $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ files, along with the
$NtServicePackUninstall$ one as well. Do not delete the folder marked as
"service pack files". After deleting, go to the Control Panel/Add & Remove
and select each hotfix in turn for removal. You will get an error message,
followed by an option to remove it from the listings.

MVP Doug Knox has an automated tool that can do all this for you as well,
check the utilities section of www.dougknox.com.

Keep in mind that once the uninstall files are removed, you cannot under any
circumstances remove an installed update. While this is normally not a
problem for most users, if you are unsure about any of them and
compatibility with your system, do not remove the option to uninstall it.

Those $NtUnistall...$ directories are not part of the SP1. They are part of
the other auto-updates or WindowsUpdates updates.

The one for uninstalling SP1 may be called $NTServicePackUninstall. You
can delete that and any like the one you mention that relate to fixes
you are sure you will not want to remove - check at the corresponding
page, eg
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;822603

(which is a post SP1 one, and relates to updated USB drivers - you would
not want to uninstall that if all is well with your USB now)
