SP1 and GPMC

Bob

I read someplace or other that GPMC is uninstalled with Vista SP1. I read
that once Windows Server 2008 is released, a new GPMC will be available for
Vista.

Anyone know where this GPMC for Vista SP1 is located?

Also, anyone know when Vista SP1 will download via Microsoft Update and/or
WSUS Server? (The only public way I've found is via
Microsoft.com/downloads)

Thanks!

Bob.

I've already had SP1 via Microsoft Update. Have you tried refreshing by
clicking 'Check for updates'? Seems a bit weird that you've not been
offered it.

If you have outstanding driver problems Windows update will not allow SP1 to
be installed. You need to fix all driver conflicts before SP1 will become
available.

That is not exactly right. There are some drivers that don't install as
they should by some particular Microsoft standards, but that didn't mean
that they didn't work or that there were conflicts pre_SP1 and so systems
with those drivers were flagged by Microsoft Update.

Actually, it only meant that the drivers would have to be reinstalled after
applying SP1. I downloaded and used the full SP1 installer and afterwards
had to reinstall my Synaptic touchpad drivers.

Driver conflicts aren't good, of course, but they aren't the reason that SP1
isn't offered by Windows Update.
