How about direct publically available and direct downloadable updates?
(And as the days spread out April 21, 2008... This will continue to happen,
in a year people will be asking for a roll-up because they tire of
installing so many onto a fresh install (although if they took 30 minutes
each month, they could grab all the updates, put them in a folder and
integrate at their whim.))
A lot of people speculate there will some day be a SP4 simply for the
reason that Home edition will continue to be sold on low-cost laptops
through June 2010. With stuff like USB 3.0 coming out in the near
future and who knows what else, it'll likely come as either another SP
or post-SP roll-up (SP3a?) supports it. I don't know that we'll see
the amount of updates being so high after SP3 since the gap in time
since SP2 and SP3 was nearly 4 years, right? SP3 encompassed some
1000+ updates. Compared to what you have to install from WU after a
fresh SP2 install, it's a drop in the bucket. No one has anything to
whine about if in a year there are even 25 updates to install after a
fresh SP3 install. In 4 years, we'll see. In 4 years, no one will care
about XP because something better may be out.
