Please let me know if downloading the XP Service Pack 2 is advisable or will
it be problematic due to its being a beta version. A friend has got it and
he says its allright.

Well it is beta and it is "This technical preview is
unsupported and is intended for testing purposes only. Do
not use in production environments."(taken from the below
link).

There is a sp2 newsgroup you can get off that page.

Ultimately it's up to you but you could cause more harm
then good. Worst case scenerio you have to do a compelte
reformat and reinstall of windows on your machine. Best
case scenerio it works perfectly fine.

It is not *likely* to break your system - but it is not final yet
either. It is being provided for test and evaluation, and you should
not use it on a production machine unless you have a good image backup
you could restore if things go wrong
