SP 2 Beta question

Andy

After installation of WindowsVistaSP2Beta-x86.exe, I've got a lettering on
the right lower corner of desktop just above the Notification Area: "Windows
Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6002"
My question is: How to remove this inscription?

You have NO idea what "beta" software is, DO you?

It is for TESTING ONLY, and not for permanent use.

To get rid of that "inscription", uninstall it when the FINISHED
product becomes available, or wait until August and it will take care
of matters on its own when it expires.

AFAIK you can't it is there to remind you that MS does not recommend using
Beta release for production.

You want to get rid of it?
Format and reinstall Vista, without SP2 BETA..

Or else, go where you got the download, and ask there!

Open "Programs and Features", then select the option to show installed
updates. Find and remove.

The same fix that works for XP also works for Vista:

Sir, have you ever try to make yourself what you suggest?
I mean did you EVER installed/uninstalled Service Pack 2?
I'm sure the answer here is NO.
Go try it. And then suggest.

You will have to do it when the REAL SP2 is released, so save the
instructions because you're going to need them, bozo.

Andy the inscription can't be removed. As you are aware SP2 is currently in
beta and, like most beta's, the 'evaluation copy' is painted on. Once SP2 is
ready for distribution Microsoft will remove the evaluation copy text. When
Windows XP was in beta you could remove the evaluation copy text by editing
the registry; however, I believe Microsoft 'stopped' that gap so future
beta's couldn't be tampered with.

The alternative is to uninstall SP2. You can do this by clicking the Start
button and selecting Windows Updates from the menu. When the windows update
window opens take a look on the left of the window and you will see a list
of 'tasks'. Click on the 'view update history' All the updates are listed
here in their individual sections. I'm currently booted into Windows 7 so
forgive me if I'm not too precise with the wording. However, look for the
Microsoft Windows section (as i say I'm in Win 7 at the moment so the
wording of the section may not be spot on.) This section will list all the
Microsoft Windows updates. You should see an update for Vista Service Pack
2. If you click on this it will uninstall.

I have uninstalled SP2 RC using the usual method for uninstalling
update software. Did you think it wouldn't work?

Andy

thank you for your participation, sir
but it look like you're the one of those who did not installed or
uninstalled this service pack yet, but fast to give advices...
ok. i'll tell you what is going on with it.
take a pen and write it down..
after the uninstallation of this service pack, system keeps stay in
evaluation stage with a "Windows Vista (TM) evaluation copy. Build 6001"
message on desktop.
but, after fixing the register with a script which Tom gave a link to,
everything returns to normal.
that's at.
this discussion is closed.

Andy

Tom, I'm not about installation/ uninstallation process.
I'm about the evaluation stage and inscription about it (look at the initial
post).
Uninstalling of this service pack do NOT fix a problem.
This register script do it.
Do you agree with me?
....or maybe you also reformatted your hard drive
?..as some of those advisers...
;)
