OK, who has downloaded this, and is it really working well? There are
so many listings in Google, where did you find it? Any caveats before
downloading?

TIA

You should wait until SP1 is available via Windows Update.
It works fine but Windows Update will scan your computer
and download some prerequisite files needed to ensure the
successful installation of SP1.

This is NOT MS server. Not at all. It may be a pirated copy or something.

SP1 is not available for downloads even for MSDN and TechNet subscribers. MS
will start installing it as part of their regular Windows Vista update
downloads in the middle of April. The MS server will check if your Vista is
SP1 ready, meaning that all drivers are available that are needed for it to
function. If some of the drivers have an older version that may cause
problems with running Vista + SP1 then the installation for your machine
will be delayed until the drivers will become available. Some of them may be
from 3-rd parties, not MS.

Don't rush with any questionable SP1 install. This may be malware.

Actually the link given on the page is to the OEM download serverfor system
builders, for the complete ISO for the SP1 slipstreamed install. Not much
use unless you intend to do clean install but it is the genuine package,

You are CLEARLY the WORST IDIOT in here!

Here are some FACTS BOZO BRIAN

LINK FROM MICROSOFT SITE for SP1
It looks like Microsoft has posted the final Vista SP1 bits to their OEM
site which is accessible to anyone that registers. The file is a 1.13GB .img
which combines the 32-bit and 64-bit update executables into one image:

Why don't you go to that link and see what is there instead of taking wild
guesses and then posting nonsense.

It is a site that gives information and a link to a very busy MS download
site where you can (GASP!) download a full copy of the Vista 32 and Vista 64
SP1 DVD, if it doesn't timeout first.

The site download speed slowed to a crawl over a few minutes. Last it said
was a few Kb/s and download time expected to be more than 80 hours...I
disconnected. I'll wait.

Me too.

Bobby,

You can get SP1 directly from Windows Update site, but you have to change
some registry settings in order for WU to scan your system for the correct
SP. I will not disclose here how to do it, but Google is easy enough to
find. What's the big rush? you would be wise to wait even after several
users have installed it and see what problems it may cause, if any.

I've already decided to wait. Thanks for the reply.

Bobby:

I am posting this via VistaBus SP1. So far, so good. No cavets.

Currently, there are two ways to acquire SP1. I finally got Windows Update
to work per 1).
I have also done 2), but have yet to burn the ISO file to a DVD

1) Via Windows Update:
From
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?s=71a4da60c6586817db8bafa9ecefe653&t=216957

1) Run command prompt as Administrator.

2) Paste the following commands and hit enter:
reg delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp1
/f > NUL 2>&1

reg delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSP1
/f > NUL 2>&1

reg add
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp1
/v Beta1 /t REG_SZ /d dcf99ef8-d784-414e-b411-81a910d2761d /f

3) Reboot

4) Run Windows update, you will find an update, install then reboot again.

5) Run windows update, you find another update, install then reboot.

6) Run Windows update, you will find the final version of SP1
(This step took 1.5 days to wait before the actual SP1 update was listed as
a dnload)

or 2) Dnload 1.1 GB ISO file here:

Thanks CZ. I'm just going to wait for the official release.

That is clearly *NOT* a Microsoft server. One should never download
Microsoft service packs and patches from anywhere but legitimate
Microsoft sources.

Does the SP-1 ISO need an existing install of Vista or can it be used to
install from scratch?
