Source Directory

Hi

Can anyone tell me if there is a source directory for install files on CD
that can be copied to the hard drive?

In Windows98/2000/XP I could copy the i386 directory to the hard drive, and
change the sourc path in the registry to point to the hard drive. Then
instead of asking for a windows CD when installing progs or drivers, the
computer would happily read it from the hard drive. Saves a lot of messing
around for the users.

Can aynone help

Vista uses an image based installation rather than a file copy method. The
old ways don't work anymore. I've never had Vista ask me for the Vista DVD
while installing a program or driver. Has this happened to you? What caused
it?

Well I am suspicious of this article. It's leading me to believe I can
somehow rip vista from this notebook and put it on my desktop dell!

You could do that with any version of Windows but you would run afoul of
activations and WGA.
