i'd like to turn off the various beeps and bongs when using XP. i've
already been into the control panel and turned all the options to "no sound"
but some persist. mouse makes a phhht everytime i click on the back button
or links in browser, and e:mail makes very noisy bong when it opens. how do
i turn off these annoying noises? thanks, dan

Rightclick sound icon (bottom righthand corner of
monitor) and click Adjust Audio Properties. Click the
Sounds tab, under Program Events go down the list you can
select any sound or None, if you prefer. When finished,
click Apply and OK. You may want to give your personal
Sound Scheme a name like your own name for saving
settings.

thanks for the response .. but ... i have no sound icon in the bottom right
hand corner. can i access whatever it is you're referring to someother way?

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab to change sound for any
specific event.
