soundcard

i need a soundcard but i have no idea what it is. is it hardware that i need
to buy or is it something that i need to enable on my computer. any
information would be gratefully recieved. i am such a 'dummie' at times but
it is something that i have never encountered before.

But whatever, a soundcard is a piece of hardware.

Many computers have integrated that on their motherboards.

The one from which you bought the computer can probably tell you if it is
integrated, otherwise you have to buy it and put it in a slot.
Check before you buy it what slots you have. Most common for soundcards are
at the moment PCI

Be aware that especially soundcards have not always drivers for Vista, so
check that if you have Vista before you buy one.
