When logged into your system as an Administrator, click on Start, Run. Type
SERVICES.MSC, and click OK.

In the list, locate the Windows Audio service. Make sure that the status of
the service is set to Started, and the Startup Type is set to Automatic.

If one or both of those settings is incorrect, double click on Windows
Audio. Change the Startup type to Automatic, and click Apply. Then, click
the Start button. Click OK, and exit the Services applet.
