Do you have a sound card installed in the computer? Have you installed
the WinXP-specific device drivers provided by the audio controller's
manufacturer? Do you have speakers? Are they plugged into the correct
jack on the sound card? Are they turned on? Do you have the sound muted?
Do you get any specific error messages when attempting to play sounds?
If so, what are they, specifically? What do your system event logs
report? What specific troubleshooting steps have you already taken, and
what were the results of each?
No one can help if you don't provide at least a modicum of
pertinent information.
