Sound

I'm having a problem with the sound on my new laptop - sometimes it works and
sometimes it doesn't. When it stops working I notice the video on the DVD
player is slow and really jumpy as well, but when sound comes back the video
plays fine (just to clarify, the sound problem applies to the whole system,
not just the DVD player). I go through the troubleshooter whenever this
problem occurrs but the Realtek AC 97 Audio appears to be installed and
running correctly. Eventually the problem corrects itself after rebooting
quite a few times, but then it will happen again a while later. The sound
seems to disappear and reappear only when the laptop boots up - never when
the system is already running. Because I take my laptop with me to work I
have to shut it down a lot and it's really annoying not to have sound half
the time. Please help! Thanks...

Are there any clues in the event viewer? Click Start > Control Panel > Admin
Tools > Event Viewer.

Look for entries around the time of the sound problems.

Also make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturers website.

Thanks - I had to reboot a minute ago and now the sound is working again, but
the next time it cuts out (which will be soon) I will check out the event
viewer and check with the manufacturer.

Thanks again -

Darren
