Sound vanishes after installing SP2

Well, I was going to just leave SP2 off of my computer after I had to
reformat after installing it last time, but now I have a program that seems
to require it.
Ok, I have Soundblaster Live LS sound card, drivers are current (because
they never released another one), direct X is current (9.0 umm, c?) but it
was different last time I tried. It was current for the time that SP2 was
released.
AMD Duron 800mhz processor, 512 ram, Nvidia GEforce 5200 (latest drivers,
just checked, like the direct X it would have been the current ones at the
time of release for SP2). Compaq bios.
Anyway, when I tried installing it last time, I lost all sound. I tried
several options in the bios for not using integrated sound, nothing worked.
Before I try all this again, has anyone heard of this particular issue? That
is, specifically someone loosing sound from SP2?

Check Volume Control and verify all are up and none muted.
Under Advanced find "Digital Output Only", change the setting in the
box.

Go to SoundBlaster's website and again get and install the latest
Windows XP driver.
