Sound Scheme replaced by System Beeps

My entire sound scheme has gone silent and only actions that trigger the
'default beep' results in a system beep. Tried changng my sound scheme back
to the windows default but it doesn't solve the problem. Need help on this
one.
 
check system devices see if their is an exclamation mark next to your sound
card.
it may be your sound drivers have gotten corrupted
