Sound problems

I recently installed a new monitor and hooked it up to my sound system. The
speakers were so bad I disconnected it and went back to my remote speakers.
Since then I have sound for Windows Media Player, etc. but none of the
Windows system sounds. I have checked all the settings and everything seems
to be configured the way it should be. Why do I have sound on the media
player but not on the startup, shutdown, e-mail notification, and all those
other irritating little sounds?

Thanks

Try going to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices Icon. Click on it and
under the Sound Tab make sure you have
WindowsDefault showing in the Sound Scheme box. If not select it and
click on Apply, Ok.

I have done all that. It is set to default and all the icons are selected for
all the different sounds but I get nothing. Thanks for your reply! Maybe
someone else has a different solution...

ok this is a rare problem first you must get a hammer and a screw driver
then throw them out the window not the computer.
sounds like your drivers for the monitor changed up the settings.
can yoou uninstall the monitor?
Also small error but sometimes in the past I have been known to hook the
sound jack back up wrong.
What version of windows are you using? xp right? ok did you system restore?
