Sound problems

Fred

I installed a new harddrive on my PC as the old drive
reached a state where I was not able to install an
operating system. The system is a an Emachine T2200.

Now that the new drive is in place and loaded with XP,
sound does not work. I receive a message that no sound
card is available. Until I had the problems with the disk
drive sound worked fine.

Are there some drives that need to be reloaded? In
addition, my plug and play modem now does not work and is
not detectable by Windows when I unplug and reinstall it.

When I go into Device Manager I see a yellow question mark
next to audio, USB, and my video controllers. The OS
thinks these are not present but they are, as they did
work fine for several months.

Thanks.

You will need to find out the exact type of hardware you are using (sound
card, graphics card etc...) and download the correct Windows XP drivers from
the vendors websites then install them.
You could try using aida32 http://www.aida32.hu/ to get the details if you
dont know.
Hope this helps.

You need to install the drivers for these items. Not sure
where you can download drivers for emachines but I am sure
there is a place. Also when you bought the machine
(assuming you bought it new) they should have given you
the device drivers for your system. What was the old OS on
the system?

What's disturbing is that I had Windows XP home edition on
this system and it worked fine. I then loaded Windows XP
and now sound and modem don't work. I would think that
the drivers for XP home edition would work the same as the
XP pro version.

Given the modem doesn't work I'll have to use another PC
to try this link and then move things over to my down box.
Thanks.

If your PC originally came with Xp Home installed, then the vendor would
have probably added the needed drivers before shipping. This is what usually
happens.
