I recently upgraded my system from ME to XP Home Edition and I have noticed
that on occassion the sounds that I added from the Sound and Device
sometimes work and sometimes they don't. When I log on I hear the log on
sound and when I open minimize or maximize a page I hear the sound that I
applied to it, and sometimes I don't. The same problem happens when I sign on
to my email account thru MSN, I normally hear the sign on sound and sometimes
I don't. Did not have this problem with Windows ME. --

Upgrade your soundcard drivers. Never get drivers from Windows Update.
Get them from:

1. The card mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers. If you don't know what audio hardware you have, either look in
Device Manager or install a free system inventory program like Everest
Home.

Install the winXP drivers for your sound card. Should be found at your
sound card makers website. Or, if onboard sounnd, your motherboard
makers website.
