sound problem

Hi,

Thanks Malke for the reply.

The original problem stemmed from the drivers for the BT
Voyager. I was unable to install them and nobody from the
AOL technical side could help. They attempted to
reinstall the drivers but failed to do so after around 20
attempts. So I decided to reinstall XP over the top as it
were.

Thats when I started getting the problems with my sound
card. The sound card is a Sound Blaster 1394 / Sound
Blaster Audigy and was working fine before I had to
reinstall my OS.

Any information would be greatfull.

Thanks Malke.

Hi, Peter. Unfortunately, you didn't quote any information from your
previous post, so I may not remember all the details (there are over
1,000 new posts to this newsgroup every day). Unrelated to your
problem, I'm going to suggest you use a real newsreader instead of the
web interface to use these Newsgroups. Although there are many
newsreader programs for Windows, you already have Outlook Express: Here
are links to help you with this:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/support/news/howto
default.asp (note that this url wraps in my newsreader and you'll have
to enter it on one line in your browser's addressbar)

OK, now on to your original problem. Since AOL is involved, all bets are
off. They write such terrible, invasive software. However, what I would
start with is to completely uninstall your Audigy. Remove the drivers
from Add/Remove Programs if they are there - otherwise you would remove
the device from Device Manager. I believe if you right-click on the
device you will get an option to "uninstall". Then shut down the
machine and physically remove the card. Restart just to be sure the
sound card is really gone. This last step is probably unnecessary, but
I'm a bit anal that way. Then, shut down the machine again and replace
the sound card. You might want to put it in a different pci slot if you
have that choice. I believe you don't want to put it in the slot next
to your agp slot (video card) anyway. Now start the computer again and
Windows should find the card. If Windows needs special drivers,
reinstall the ones you got with the card. You can always update those
drivers from Creative's site if you need to.

Let me know how this worked for you and if you need more help.

Cheers,

Malke
