No Sound

I am using Windows XP Professional with a Sound Blaster Live 24 card on a
Pentium II and I can't get the sound card to work again after changing hard
drives and reinstalling everything. I get variations of the following error
message: "Unable to open the necessary device for playback. It may be in
use or unavailable."

Reinstalling the latest Sound Blaster drivers did not solve the problem.

I removed the sound card, rebooted, reseated the sound card, and rebooted.
The usual new hardware found dialog appeared and it identified it correctly
as Sound Blaster Live 24. But the sound still does not play.

All of the options in the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" dialog box
are disabled. It says "no audio device" at the top of the volume tab.
However, the Sound Blaster card is listed as having no problems in device
manager.

I'm not sure what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jill

So you are saying that before changing the hard drive you were using
WinXP Pro, the SB Live24, and the same drivers but the card worked while
now it does not? You are sure that the only change was the new hard drive?

Have you run the Creative diagnostics software? That should be on the
CDROM that came with your audio card. The software may help to correct
or at least diagnose the problem.
