sound out of sync with video in avi

Hi all,

when I play .avi files on windows xp (using nero showtime usually) I
notice that the sound progressively goes out of sync with the video,
i.e. it falls behind.

I'm not sure what the problem could be but I'm guessing it's either;

1. the sound card is too slow (although this seems unlikely)
2. a software problem (i.e. do I need to use better software) or
3. encoding problem (i.e. should I convert the avi to something else)

I would appreciate anyone else's input particularly if they have had
the problem and fixed it, or what you are doing if you've never had
this problem.

Thanks

John

If it happens with all your videos then it is likely the player
that you are using. If it's only one, then it is likely in how it
was encoded. If the whole thing was out of sync it would be much
easier. Fixing a gradual sync problem is sometimes more trouble
than what it's worth. But if this video is important to you then
you could start here:
