Sound Max Driver not found

I have a IBM x40. My audio all of a sudden stopped working. When I
go to try and install the Sound max Audio driver from IBM's website, I
get "Audio Driver not found"

Any ideas.. I have read many fourms responses.

I also cannot delete the audio drivers from my device manager. I can'
update drivers and that's it.

Boot to Safe Mode and remove any/all devices listed for the audio, reboot and
reinstall.
