When I opened and checked Control Panel->Sounds I see a list of sounds with
some blank spaces in the list of sounds itself, plus an old program which
is still having sounds attributed to it, despite having removing this
thing.

Where to look and fix this Sounds List glitch?

Now, the Etc. part: I have an 'Other' section in "My Computer" with the
Control Panel applet. How to find and fix this, too?

Thanks, Donald

Donald,

The application entries would be available in this part of the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps

I have these five items:

..Default
Conf
Explorer
MSMSGS
MSNMSGR

Open Regedit.exe and navigate to the above location. Backup the branch to a
REG file (File > Export option). then delete the unwanted apps from that
key.
