Sound becomes distorted and choppy, scratchy after running
an application for a while, sometimes as long as an hour.

Occurs while watching a movie in Win Media Player. Occurs
while running a game, Blizzard's Warcraft3, and Deus Ex
for the most recent instances.

If I close application and restart it, sound is fine.
Does not require system shut down. I believe perhaps I am
having some sort of memory leak? All drivers are
updated. DXdiag log is available if needed.

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 2500+, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
512mb Memory
Nvidia nForce Audio
Win XP 5.1 build 2600

I have this problem when trying to watch DVD movies on my laptop...and it
really bothered me. I found out that it's a result of the way in which a
computer as opposed to a true DVD player operates...something to do with a
computer having a buffer that gets overloaded. I suspect that may be what
you are also experiencing. The fix? I don't know. Perhaps lots and lots
of RAM. I have 256 MB of RAM which is not enough. For games, graphics,
etc., you need as much RAM as you can get....and it probably needs to be the
right kind of RAM and with a fast enough processor. Perhaps 512 is not
enough....or ???? I'd be interested in knowing what you find out. I am
ready to upgrade to 512 MB of RAM as I use PhotoShop 7 on my laptop...and it
gobbles RAM...but if I need to do something else to make DVD's run smoother,
then I'll do it....as I view DVD's when I'm on the road.
