sound insert

I inserted a midi sequence into a PPS, and selected to auto play, which it
does fine on my machine. However, when mailed to another, the tune is not
playing. Why not?

To allow someone else to hear the midi file you must include that midi file
in the same folder at the PPS file. Inserted files are linked. If you can
convert the file to a wave file you can imbed it and then it becomes part of
the PPS file (not linked). Even if the midi file you linked to in your PPS
file was in another folder on your hard drive, PPT will also look in the
same folder as the PPS file for that linked midi. (so the erroneous linked
path will not be a problem).

Thank you for your reply.
The midi file actually is in the same folder as the PPS file, and it is 75
KB big.

A

Alsenor

Yes, I understand. I actually deleted the previous insertion and reinserted
the midi file after placing it in the same folder as the PPS/PPT file.
Still no luck!

I see - no, I did not, and will try that now.
Nobody ever mentioned that part!
Thanks, Pia!

Yes, I've seen that. We are so used to send the music with the presentation
that we sometimes forget to mention this part...

This is pretty frustrating. I did everything I was advised to do, put the
midi into the same folder as the PPS /PPT files, resinserted the midi into
the PPS, even installed that PFC application, attached both the PPT and the
midi to the mail, but when I mail it to my other computer, the tune still
doesn't play! What gives?

A

Alsenor

Yes, the midi plays ok when opened directly.

Can the other computer play the midi at all? In other words, have the
recipient double click the midi file to see if it works.

My wife's, right next to mine.
I mail it over to her for testing, so I can see what happens to others.
She uses WIN XP.
The midi plays in Windows Media Player.
Funny thing happened on last try:
Clicking on the PPS file attachment in her mail window does nothing, but
when she saves both attachments (PPS and midi) in a folder on her HD, she
can open and play it properly. Well, one would expect so, but that is not
what most people would do, right?

A

Alsenor

I guess that is a way out - however, I never have to do that when I receive
a PPS attachment!
There must be something that is wrong with the way I do it.

No, there's nothing you are doing wrong. A linked music will not play from
inside Outlook or any other E-Mail-Programm. Sound and presentation have to
be saved somewhere.
When the music plays as soon as you doubleclick the PPS inside your
mail-program than the music was embedded, not linked. That would only be
possible for WAV, neither for MP3 or MIDI or anything else.

I see, thanks for the explanation.
Well then, that is what I was doing wrong.
I think it is unreasonable to expect some less experienced recipients to do
this, and I will have to find a way to convert any audio files I use to Wav
files, so I can embed them.
Do you know of any free apps that do that?

That would be the most convenient way for others.

I think the program most mentioned is CDEX (http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/),
but you should also have a look at this site

I tried the two apps you mentioned, but unfortunately neither does .mid to
.wav!

I've forgotten that your original soundfile was midi. I'm sorry that I have
put you on the wrong track.

WINAMP would be a good solution (www.winamp.com). It's free and comes with a
MIDI plugin to convert MIDI into WAV. Choose "Device / MIDImapper" and
"Output / WAV"

You find more converter midi-wav on
http://convert-midi.com/midi-to-wav.shtml, but they are not free.
