Does anyone know if Microsoft is planning on fixing this problem, or is it
too big a security hole?

If the latter, why don't they just say so in the KB article?

I don't know the answer to your first question, nor, I suspect, did the
writer of the KB article.

Actually there is a quite easy workaround for this problem and for users
having any of the Office suites installed and not only Microsoft Word.
Just use Microsoft Publisher (2003) as I did when facing the problem in Word
2003, there I could perfectly insert my soundfile as expected.

I only wonder: If this is because of security reasons within XP, why does it
still work in Publisher and not for Word, the threat for Windows is the same
I would assume.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Jascha
