Sound File Embedding Problem

I have looked over this newsgroup for information on my
problem, but can't find a suitable answer. I'm using
PowerPoint 2003 and I'm trying to embed an mp3 file into
a picture slideshow. I've increased the default "link"
size to 10,000K and the mp3 is only 4.5MB, but it still
will not 'embed' itself (thereby increasing the
PowerPoint file size by 4.5MB). The show will play on
other computers but the music isn't there. Everything
I've read on this newsgroup seems to point to only being
able to 'embed' .wav files (as opposed to .mp3 or .wma or
any other media file), but nothing in the Help section
mentions this restriction. Could that really be? They
only intended for .wav files to be embedded (meaning my
4.5MB mp3 would be a 35MB .wav file in order to maintain
the quality)? Anyone that knows a solution to this
problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, only wav files are embedded. If you want the sound embedded, you will
need to convert it to a wav file. Otherwise, it is linked. If you are going
to link to it, be sure to put a copy of the mp3 file in the same folder as
the presentation before you do the linking. Then, when you move the
presentation, make sure you move the sound file as well. If they both start
in the same folder and end in the same folder, your link will remain intact.
